Early Concepts (September 2022 – April 2023)

From an Idea to a Working Concept – the Birth of the TOURELLY Mechanism.

After the initial idea of a round pedal emerged, we wanted to find out quickly whether something like this could actually work.
So we started creating the first sketches and 3D models. The focus was purely on functionality – weight, materials, or design didn’t matter yet.

Our goal was clear: a pedal that always sits in the right position. A clip-in system that frees riders from stress, because they no longer need to look down when stepping in.

The first concepts were designed for MTB and gravel – rugged, technical environments where function matters more than aesthetics. These prototypes looked rough, unfinished, almost raw – but they helped us understand what it would take mechanically for a round pedal to truly work.

We built early mechanisms, tested spring tensions, and simulated how a pedal without a fixed “top” or “bottom” would behave.

The result was far from what TOURELLY is today – but it was the crucial first step: the idea had a shape.
