From plastic to metal – TOURELLY undergoes real testing.
After two years of sketches, 3D prints, and discussions, the moment had finally come: in June 2024, we held our first dual-function metal prototypes in our hands. A moment we had worked toward for a long time – and one that felt just as special as we imagined.
Until then, at events like the Vienna Bike Festival or the 4GameChangers Festival, we had only shown plastic prototypes of this version – now, for the first time, we could carry out real functional tests.
The pedal itself remained the same in its basic shape, but we manufactured two different cleats – one for road and one for MTB/gravel. For the first time, our dual-function concept worked: a single pedal suitable for two cycling worlds, with individual cleats defining the click-in behaviour.
Float or Q-factor adjustments did not exist at this stage – but the springs were interchangeable, allowing us to adapt the spring tension.
The road setup weighed in at 320 g – still heavy at the time, but more than acceptable for an initial metal prototype.
Both cleat versions worked reliably, even though the springs deformed plastically after extended use – a valuable learning for the next iterations.
From this point on, we were finally able to perform real load tests – and we used the opportunity to document, analyse, and share everything.
In parallel, we launched our first larger social-media push: videos, photos, stories that showed that TOURELLY was no longer just a concept. The response was fantastic – website registrations increased noticeably, and many long-time followers wrote to tell us how exciting it was to finally see the “real pedal.”
This moment was a turning point: TOURELLY was no longer just an idea – it had become a functioning product.
