Road Focus (December 2024)

A decision that shaped us.

At the end of 2024, we faced one of the most important decisions in our development so far: Should we continue pursuing the idea of dual functionality – or focus on one system first?

After many discussions, technical evaluations and sleepless nights, we decided in December 2024: We will focus on the road system first.

This decision was not easy. The idea of a pedal that works for both Gravel/MTB and Road had been one of TOURELLY’s core concepts from the beginning. But realistically – and with limited resources – it became clear: to develop a truly market-ready system, we needed to set priorities and concentrate on one direction.

In the MTB sector, the space for the cleat is structurally very limited, and the pedal must be designed around the cleat. On road bikes, however, the 3-bolt system offers significantly more freedom. We could design geometry, form and mechanics more freely, without being restricted by existing standards or heavy dirt requirements.

That meant: more development freedom – and the chance to bring TOURELLY to the next level.

The dual-function concept is not off the table – it’s simply on pause until we have the cashflow, time and production capacity to pursue it. The foundation is already in place, and the system is closer to series readiness than ever.

From December onward, we began integrating new features:

  • Float adjustment via small set screws, allowing riders to fine-tune the lateral knee movement range individually.
  • Q-factor adjustment, with the drum sliding along a threaded axle and being fixed with two set screws – meaning no axle swap was needed to change the Q-factor anymore.

In parallel, we began collaborating with 8Pins, an Austrian manufacturer of high-quality seatposts, who will support us in production. A partnership that strengthens us both technically and regionally.

During this phase, we also submitted a new funding application to secure the next steps – series readiness, testing cycles and industrialization.

The cleats were still complex in their construction at this point, but this very complexity showed how close we already were to the solution.

This phase was intense, directional and a true turning point.
